Starting Travian

When a new player starts playing travian he gets 3 tribe options- Romans, Gauls or Teutons. Then the player must start to build their village by upgrading the buildings that make it grow. Resource fields are the places where resources are made, they are wheat crop, iron mine, woodcutter and clay pits. Every player will need all the resources to keep their village going and survive.

The other buildings needed include, warehouse (used to store resources), Market place (used for trading and buying resources) Barracks (used to build troops ready for battle) Cranny (used to hide resources in the event of a raid) Academy (used for upgrading or researching new troop types) and there are many more building that are vital for survival of the players village.

When a new player starts, he is given a specific time according to server speed and how much the server has progressed called beginners protection, it stops any attacks on the new player which will give them a head start to defend his village from enemy raids. However he will also need to acquire troops shortly of their own, which could stay back and defend or leave the friendly village to attack or raid an enemy.

Every player should at some point think about joining an alliance, this is a good way of getting protection. To join an alliance the player must first build an embassy, at level 3 of the embassy the player then can to form their own alliance and invite other players to join it. The more people in your alliance the higher rank it will be. Within your own alliance you can assign certain positions to other members of it.

Each of the three ethnic groups (Romans, Teutons, and Gauls) have specific strengths and weaknesses. The Romans are relatively good in both attack and defence but are expensive and have a long process before they are strong and ready for battle. The Gauls are the peaceful tribe they have good defence but lack in the power to conquer enemy villages. The Teutons are the most offensive of the three they are feared for their aggression and rage in battle in the start, the Teutons are for players who wish to attack more than anything.  later romans and gauls take over super powerful hammers

Teuton best guide

First of all i would like to tell u that this post is for real active and agressive players who spends about 14-16hrs a day playing Travian, at least 10-12hrs.

Teuton means raid, kill and conquer and thats why Teuton is my favourite tribe and the one I have played always. The reason I like teutons is that it is a very aggressive tribe and it really favours the active player.

Get the rewards
If you play on a server where there is a quest reward system I suggest following that untill you are at the last part of it. That way is quicker than starting out farming right away cause of all the resources it gives you. It actually gives you close to 6000 resources total and farming cannot beat that, since you in either case would have to wait longer before you can start farming with the new rules, not getting the resources from homeland anymore. The last part of the reward system is where you are supposed to extend all fields to level two.  . It costs a lot to extend everything to level two and it is much better to put those resources into clubs.

By this post I will like to give some goals you should try to reach before you move on -clubman1st Day
When your first six clubs are ready you should be raiding and building clubs non stop. Just farm all the villages around you that are low in population with 2-3 clubs each. When players have used the reward system to get a rat as defence you will need 3 clubs to kill it without losses, so send 3 in your first attack. As soon as you get the report you send another  raid at them assuming you got max in the previous raid, if not let them rest for some time, the bigger the population the shorter time you let them rest as bigger populations usually means more resource fields built, and thus a quicker production of resources. I think you should aim for about 50 clubs before you start worrying about other farming players out there. If anyone attacks you during this time do not bother attacking them back, just make sure you have all your clubs out and that you have spent all your resources so they get nothing. Make sure, however, that you remember who attacked you and their army size. And remember u  will need a cranny at least lvl 3-5 so that u dont lose any resource.

When it comes to the barracks you should increase its level whenever you have a 1-2 hours building que in it. You will need a higher level barracks if you are playing normal server, since building times are three times as long. Granary and warehouse should be upgraded as needed. Better to have them too large than too small.

2nd Day
Now it is time that you take a look around your 7*7 and figure out who else has an raiding army out there. Donot mind the romans and gauls, just look at the teutons for now. Hopefully you will have the biggest army at this point, but you have to use it wisely. You have to destroy your competitors army by attacking them, donot use your clubs to defend with even if you have enough to kill off the attacking force. Your raiding army is yourbread and butter, you need it to raid and grow with, dontt waste them unless you can kill a competitors clubs with it in one attack. The best way to do this in my opinion is to counter attacks made on you. And yes dont forget to train a Hero by now.

When you see an incoming attack on you from another teauton, save up your clubs at home untill 20-30 seconds before they arrive. Then send your clubs out on an attack somewhere, and some seconds before the attack  lands  cancel your attack so they come back just 1-3 second after your enemy has attacked you. As soon as they arrive home you send them on an attack towards an enemy. If you do this efficiently you can manage to land your attack at your enemy just a couple of seconds after his army returns and maybe catch them all at home if you are lucky. It is only possible when both the players are of the same tribe and u attack
back with same kind of troops, as both are teutons and the troops are clubs.

3rd Day
At 3rd day and having about 80-100 clubs I usually build up my academy and get about 5 scouts. With the scouts you can raid more efficiently and  use the first one to find out whether the romans or gauls in my area with high population have troops or not. You can also use them to scout enemy teutons but beware that you most likely dont see their whole army as its usually out on raiding. You should also have at least one scout at home all the time so that you notice scout attempts, which you will increase as you get more scouts.

4th Day
At fourth day if all things go easy u head towards 200 clubs I suggest starting the infrastructure for your first party at ur town centre if you play on a speed server. You only need one party on a speed server to get your second village, and if things work out well you should be able to have this party around day 4. I will advice you to keep building clubs at the same time, but donot increase your barracks level more in this period. After you get the party going start buildingyour residence to level 10 and then settlers. Make sure you never have your settlers at home when you are not there to watch them, it really hurts having one of them killed in an attack. On a speed server you should be able to have a second city on day four as long as you donot face too much trouble with your neighbour teutons.
If you play on a normal speed server, donot mind the party infrastructure untill you reach at least 500 clubs. If you start partying too early you will need 3 of them to get your second city, and you probably wont have enough income to run those 3 right after each other. And there is no use in running one and then having to wait, as you could just as well have waited starting the first one. I usually build the level 10 mainbuilding first, as its cheap, then I put up the level 10 academy, then level 1 townhall and then level 10 residence. After I have done this I just let it stand there and gather culture points for me untill I have a large enough raid income to run the party and build the settlers without much deadtime in between. I usually have about 400-500 clubs at the time I build my second village on a normal server.

A few tips on where to put your second village. If you are using gold and playing on a normal server or even a speed server a 15 cropper is the way to go. A cropper will produce more crop than any other village, so it will  be a better base for big armies, so always chose a 15 cropper. If you are playing on a normal server you should also always chose a 15 cropper as its too hard supporting a big army from a 6444 village with normal resource production. Troops eat as much on a normal server, but you production is only one third of speed. When you get your second village on a normal server you should stop producting troops in your first city and build it in your second city, the 15 cropper, instead. Thats why you should not research anything in your first city apart from scouts at this point of time, later spearmen and paladins will be needed to be produced in ur first village.. A 6444 can easily support a pretty big army on speed, so its more up to you there. If you play on speed and donot use gold, you can chose a 6444 if you wish, but at least city number 4 or 5 has to be a 15 cropper. But u wait for too long for getting a cropper, u will not see any cropper left in the middle of
the map and will have go far away in search of cropper.

Settling village 2
When you have got village number two its time for you to start upgrading your resource fields. Dont let your army production stop while doing this though, the army will still be by far your largest income of resources, but getting some resource fields built up now is important too. The less active you are the more important the resource fields are as they keep producing even when you sleep and if somehow ur troops get killed than resource fields will be source of ur resources. Resource fields are more important on the speed server as the production there are 3 times the one you get on a normal server while travel times are only twice as fast. On a normal server raiding is more important and your own production is less important. If you use gold, start with upgrading crop to 5, then clay and wood to 5, and then iron to 4. After this keeping them at the same level is the way to go, apart from running one of each to 10 when you got them all at 7 to get the bonus building. If you donot use gold you have to look at what resource you need the most and upgrade it according to ur use.

By this time as you upgrade resource fields you should go for paladins. This is something you have to evaluate yourself, but the more treaths you have closer to you the quicker you should go for them. I prefer getting paladins before starting to build axes, and if I am in a real easy area I will wait till I have close to 500 clubs. Then Teutonic Knights will be a good option, though u can train them in small quantity only at this point
of time, but if u are an real agressive player teutonic knights will play a decisive role in killing enemy clubs
and even easily break through Roman praets, which clubs find hard to break.

I will not suggest start building axes untill u have at least 600 clubs,50 teutonic knights and about 100 paladins, but its the same rule for this, if you have many threaths close to you, you should get them faster. Its important that you try to get your 14*14 under control now, and you have to use the means necessary. If you start facing too much enemy cavallery you have to start getting the defensive spears too. You canot keep running parties and getting more cities if you canot defend them. As a teuton being the dominant player and keeping your neighbourhood under control is very important. You donot want those romans and gauls getting cavallery, and you donot want other teutons raiding your farms either.

Also by this time try to get some players from ur 21*21 , that can play the role of deff for u..
As a teuton u will always need Roman Praets and Gaul Druids for your protection.

paladin Carry on
On a speed server what you need to do is to keep building your armies as well as having parties going 24/7 in all of your villages. As soon as you get enough culture you willl build a new city. You should chose a 15 cropper as your capital and build a lot of support city around that one. In one of the cities beside it you will have your main army with barracks and stables producing troops 24/7. When you get 15 cities or so around it, you will need great barracks and great stables there as well. At this point you will also get chiefs and start conquering cities instead of building them. Eventually you also start building defense in cities you donot need for offense and work towards end game.

On a normal server you will do the same thing, but the parties are less important, as you wontt have enough production to keep them running in all your cities. Here you will get most of your culture from buildings. Having a high level embassy in all your cities is real nice for this. The embassy trick is usefull in speed servers too. I like having the capital as my army base in normal servers, as I cannot really support 24/7 production in great barracks and stables on this type of servers unless I have like 40 cities or so

And as u carry on like this u will be qite big till sever end.

Aggressive Roman Basics -End game

Romans: The Basics

travian-roman-image1The Travian manual has this to say of Romans: "The Roman empire is the easiest for newcomers to Travian." This is only halfway true. Romans have some of the strongest units and most advanced buildings, but they are also prime targets for early game farming because they get off to a slow start. What Romans really excel at is the mid and late game. While their troops are more expensive than the Teutons, if you can survive the troubled server start without taking too many hits, your troops can be a force to be reckoned with. While Romans require a little bit more strategy than the defensive Gauls or the highly aggresive Teutons, with good choices and careful growth they can become very powerful.
Romans also have the most powerful walls, making them excellent defenders, and some of the best offensive troops and defensive troops overall. If you play intelligently, a Roman can survive as a hardcore raider, or a more defensive builder, or any combination of the two.

Roman Troops: Expensive and Powerful

travianimperianThere are significant advantages and disadvantages to Roman troops. A Teuton's starting unit, the maceman, costs half as a much as a leigonnaire to train, and moves faster and can carry more resources. This allows them to build much larger armies much quicker, at least in the beginning of the server. However, a legionnaire is significantly better at attacking and defending than a maceman and while macemen will be absolutely destroyed by cavalry, legionnares can stand up much better to raiding cavalry. This means that while you need to be more careful with your legionnaires, an army of them will be useful for more than just raiding, and for much longer.
This is the case with most Roman troops. Prateorians are expensive, but fantastic at defense, and imperians are some of the best attackers per wheat in the game, With the new horse watering pool, Equites Imperatoris and Equites Ceasaris are even more efficient and powerful than before. Your armies will be more expensive and slower than your Teuton and Gaul neighbors, but they will also be much more powerful.

Play as Roman

romanec1
Unlike the ruthless Teutons, Roman players will not be able to survive entirely on raiding unless they are extremely active, lucky, or both. While it is a good idea to focus on building a military infrastructure and raiding the people around you for resources, it is also smart to build up your fields while you do so that if something goes badly you will have backup resources. Send your legionnaires out in groups of 3-5 and focus on hitting small population Romans and Teutons. Anyone with less than a pop of 9 will have no forces to oppose you, but don't be afraid to hit larger people once you have more troops - legionnaires can kill macemen and rats with ease. You will grow slower than your Teuton neighbors, but if you stay active and avoid being raided with good cranny use and defenses, you will begin to match and surpass those opponents as the server wears on. Continue growing with a combination of fields and raiding, and soon your superior infrastructure and troops will make you a force to be reckoned with.
If you start the server late, or are extremely careful with crannies and defensive troops, you can also get by with just building fields and defenses - this strategy is slower, but requires less constant attention and can take you to the top over time.

Romans in the Endgame

travianromanvillageOnce the Natars appear and the race for the World Wonder begins, Romans become even more valuable. Roman praetorians are the best unit in the game for defending against infantry and their walls are the best in the game, so you may be called upon to defend or even build a WW. A Roman army, started soon enough and composed of Imperians and Equites Ceasaris, may be powerful enough to break even end-game defensive armies, and is important to any alliance. The Roman trade office also allows Roman players to send resources more efficiently, which makes the upkeep of a large 20+ city empire easier, and allows them to pump resources into a World Wonder village quickly. Even a Roman who is only somewhat active will have a useful role in the endgame

Romans: Overall Balance

Romans are indeed very good for beginners, but they are also good for players of all experience levels and availabilities. The strong Roman economy and military allows for a great variation of strategies, and is very good for defensive play in the mid and late game. Romans do require some attention, because you will always be a target for other raiders, especially Teutons, until you show off just how powerful you are. Unless you are very good with crannies and resources or you have bought enough gold to use the NPC merchant frequently, you will want to be on at least two or three times a day. But, as powerful and efficient as they are, Romans can be very effective in the hands of any player.

Gaul Basics

.

Gauls are the most peaceful of all three tribes in Travian. Their troops are excellent. The tribe Gaul is for the players, who want to give average time playing travian. Gauls have fast calvary, and lightning quick defenders. Gauls have the most important defence system called Trappers which is not present in the other two tribes. So, basically Gauls are good in defence.

While farming is the most important aspect of Travian, it is even more important to farm as a Gaul. Your raiders are not cheap, and they are not as quick to produce, so you wont be able to make 100 units on your first day of raiding like you could do with club swingers. Moreover u have to first research swordsman in academy before training them. A Gaul player can get a heavy boost from Resource bonuses and NPC trade.

But despite this gauls have some advances over the other two tribes..
1. Phalanx- fast easy to produce defenders.
2. Double Cranny which can hide 2000 of each resources.
3. Traps.

So to start as Gaul you have got to rely on these three things. And make sure you raid only inactive players, if u are raiding with phalanxes. Rather than producing a barracks on your second day, hold off until the third day to give your neighbors a chance to quit the game and go inactive before you farm them. Make sure you have a level 6-8 cranny, and a level 1 trapper right out of new player protection. If you have stupid Teuton neighbors, they will send in 2-3 club swingers and get them trapped. You can then add another level to your traps, and produce 5-10 phalanx. By the time he comes back, you will trap his poor raiding force, and he will be sore. However, a good Teuton rival will first raid all the Romans, and Teutons, and not come for you until he has got enough numbers to overcome traps. If you play actively your population should scare him off. but If it doesnt he will raid you, and get his clubbies trapped, gain zero resources. Make sure you keep your phalanx safe from him, and use those double crannies so he always gets zero resources from you. Its VERY important not to give an inch, as you will be applying to a strong alliance soon, and stolen resources make you look weak. Instead you want the alliance leader to see your collection of phalanx and a string of worthless raids. And dont forget to release the trapped troops, if u see the traps are getting engaged, so that
traps can repair automatically.

While Phalanx are poor raiders, they are great defenders, You should start making these as soon as your resources are level 4. 15-30 phalanx are plenty to clean out the inactives around you, and allow you to push for Theutates Thunder. These quick calvary are the fastest raiders in the game. Remember to be extremely careful, an active Roman with 4-5 legionnaire will ruin all your fun, even after you have Theutates Thunder, make sure you only hit inactives. Its crucial that you get into a good alliance soon, so push hard to collect 10-12 Theutates Thunder, and keep raiding with those phalanx. If your are being hit by a Teuton, and havent made any friends yet, you should consider buying some gold to use NPC trades to create resources. set 1-2 market trades Wood for Food, then NPC food into Wood.€You can make 20,000 resources easily, giving you the boost you need to produce settlers, or create more Theutates Thunder.

If you are being heavily pressured by a Teuton, Theutates Thunder are his worst fear, so protect them at all cost, once you have a  Theutates Thunder hero, and 10 Theutates Thunder you can really hurt him by clipping his clubbies. 10 TT with a hero can massacre even large Teutonic armies at this point in the game, but dont do it if u see speres at ur enemies defences.Wipe your neighbors army and watch them come running for an alliance.

By 8 days into the game you should have your second village going (preferably a 6 cropper) and your game should be moving along nicely. You will be pushing your way towards 50 Theutates Thunder and any Teutons around you, will hate you by now. Give the alliance you want to join a travilog of some of your hits, or just tell him to check your offense score. Good alliance leaders will be excited to find a Gaul with offense points and will be happy to see your skills.
€
At this point push your traps to 50-60, this will make you invulnerable to roman and other Gaul players. If a Gaul your size tries to raid you, he is going to get his entire army trapped, and your phalanx are going to massacre those poor Theutates Thunder which remain untrapped.. If a roman tries to hit you with his legions, they must be in a good number to beat your traps and your phalanxes but if a large pop Teuton tries to raid you dodge them and release his troops from traps, if it is a raid.

If you can manage a top 500 start with a Gaul, you are a serious committed player any alliance will be happy to have. Just realize, getting there with a slow to start faction is hard work. You have to do a lot of small raids using phalanx, and you will find swords slow and expensive compared to those clubbies. But, once you have 200 TT, and you start clearing clubbies 500 at a time, youa will be happy you decided to play Gaul.
